PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!

I was surfing the Forum Cari's Sarawak board when I found one of the topics begging for the family of the late Lance Corporal Ungkok Anak Jugam who died on 13 February 1955 to do something in order to honor the hero.  I can't tell more, just see the pictures and if you happen to know his family, please take action.

Location:  Jalan Langgar, Alor Star, Kedah

He was one of  the Sarawak Rangers (most of them were the brave Ibans) who served the country, specifically in West Malaysia back in the 50's.  Sarawak Government should have taken action, regardless what medium they able to consider.  This hero should be respected; at least there's a small monument built there if a mouseleum is too grand.

For Sarawakians, if you happen to understand local dialect you can read the entry here.

Daknya belah nun mun bab2 cam tok nang sik lalek bah, cuba mun sama dirik daknya cepatnya molah something...but i still think sidak pasukan renjer malaysia or sidak ATM should have done something first. As I commented dlm forum cari..benda cam tok sik perlu dipadah bah...everyone I mean the authorities concerned should know the fact that these were the people who sacrificed their sweat and blood for the nation's security. Sori la Coki if I may sound emotional but being an ex-service man's daughter myself, my father used to fight against the communist during the late 60' and 70's. He and some others were shot and hurt during one of the fight in the late 70's then. I'm proud of him and his friend and he is still alive today. Moral of the story....some people just don't appreciate things like this anymore. I believe some of the rangers and soldiers that had fought during the pre-independence and konfrontation era should be honoured by putting their name in the Malaysian history book. Bukan sekadar jadi arkib di muzium polis or muzium tentera ajak. Just my one cent opinion only dear.

Agik idup agik ngelaban.

Hi there!

Thank you for highlighting this sad case. Looking closely at the tombstone, it may not be the actual grave as there is an inscription "Lies somewhere near here". I got a feeling, the body of the late Lance Corporal Ungkok was never found after the battle with the CTs.

Anyway, there are 18 Iban Trackers and Sarawak Rangers who are buried in various parts of Malaya.

I have sold the idea of exhuming their graves to a politician friend, and bring the remains and rebury them in a heroes memorial grave, anywhere in Kuching.

Let's hope Sarawak Government buy this idea. I will keep you informed on the progress.

By the way, let me introduce myself.
My name is Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Robert Rizal Abdullah @ Robert Madang Langi. I came from Lachau, Sri Aman but now settled down in Taiping, Perak. I was in the Malaysian Rangers from 1969 to 1992. You can read my stories in my blog: http://pgbwarrior.blogspot.com

Thank you.
